April Meeting

Our April 2nd meeting produced 35 in attendance which included I new guest and I new member. Our current roll has 57 active and 4 inactive (Iris, Cindy and Kyle, and Will) members. Doug in Iraq participates my e-mail, which gives him credit as an active member. Thanks to all our members who are makes this club a positive experience.

Since the March meeting the Patrick County Tourism Division gave our club exclusive rights to have photos considered and chosen for their brochure as well as annual calendar. Reynolds Homestead also gave us our own exhibit for April, which we are very thankful.

Pending reminders include our thinking about the upcoming county and state fair, which require the 8x14 white mats, which have a tendency to get scarce in September. I will also be drafting a guest/new member handout giving a quick overview of our club. Also, I will be taking another look at our brochure handout.

New business includes David Stanley’s developing a new website for our club – www.patrickhenryphoto.com - David took comments and he was given our very special thanks for his doing this for us. Any comments for any change should be sent to him or presented at the next meeting. The old website – www.angelfire.com/film2/homestead has a link to direct one to the new site. I will be changing this old site next month and may keep it to allow more photos of our field trips or competition awards past the #1 choice posted on the new site. Your comments on this…..

Upcoming events include a Clearwater Beach, Florida trip in May, a plan for Williamsburg this spring, a PSA conference in Tucson in September and a local field trip to the Chinqua-Penn Plantation on April 14th. Pat took input on member’s thoughts on good field trips and will be giving feed back at next meeting.

Alfred gave a report on the PSA conference and membership information. www.psa-photo.org is their website and we invite our members to view and become members as this is our way to grow through a national and international perspective. We have not spent enough time with PSA, but you can talk to Alfred, PSA officer and our club liaison.

Information was shared on an upcoming Piedmont Arts exhibit beginning on April 27th by Sammy, books on photography will be included in our website under recourses, and a report from Doug in Iraq through his e-mails.

Sammy gave his program by showing all the entries submitted on the county calendar project. Next month he will be showing us editing techniques using available software. Competion will be showing the signs of spring. Mark your calendar for our next meeting, which is May 7th.

I did not realize May 7th was our meeting day when I made our reservations for the Florida trip. Me, my aunt and member Evelyn and her friend and member Doris, Nellie and Cindy Jones will nevertheless be thinking of you. Pat will act in my stead and Jay will lock the doors. Remember, our meetings will be back to the upstairs location unless signs are posted directing us downstairs. DO NOT FORGET TO PICK UP PHOTOS LEFT FROM THE APRIL EXHIBIT. Not to brag, but some of “us” will just be picking up our money.
